ExactAir Heating and Cooling is a family-owned company based in Festus, MO, founded on a simple idea — homeowners deserve to see exactly what’s wrong, exactly what it costs, and exactly what standard the work is held to, before any decision gets made.
How ExactAir started
Brett Lahue had an entrepreneurial streak going back to childhood, but the path to ExactAir ran through the Army first, where he learned teamwork and leadership under pressure. Before starting the company, he spent time in local law enforcement and the military, then logged more than 5,000 installation hours in the field working for another HVAC company.
Somewhere in that stretch, Brett noticed something: a lot of homeowners in Jefferson County were getting guesswork instead of a real diagnosis, and pressure instead of a straight answer. That’s the gap ExactAir was built to close.
He learned the trade the traditional way — working under his father, a by-the-book technician, in a journeyman-to-apprentice setup. Every finished task got checked. When it was done right, his father had one word for it: “Perfect!” But the local HVAC market already had a company by that name (a friendly one, still — ExactAir and Perfect Air know each other well). His father’s next-most-used word for a job done right was “Exactly!” ExactAir it was.
The name stuck because the standard behind it was never just a name — it’s the same six-step checklist a technician runs today: Exact Diagnosis, Exact Findings, Exact Options, Exact Pricing, Exact Testing, Exact Verification.
